I am here in Las Vegas because of WPPI (Wedding and Portrait Photographers International). It is an organization that is devoted solely just for wedding and portrait photographers. This will be my third year going to WPPI, and every year, I learn so much from the different keynote speakers, and the many classes I can take that will help me grow my business. I always look forward to learning new techniques in photography, and help redefine my visual style, my approach, and most of all expand my creativity in so many levels.
Today, I participated in a WPPI Plus with Philadelphia Wedding Photographer Cliff Mautner. In a nutshell, he is one of the best in the business of wedding photography. His style, his art, and his limitless creativity in capturing timeless wedding images are simply awe inspiring. Today was day one of the class, and we discussed “The Anatomy of a Wedding Day”. He shared his knowledge and philosophy how he photographs weddings, coming from over 28 years as a photojournalist for a Philadelphia newspaper.
He shared his techniques in capturing brides (and their groom) in harsh lighting. Meaning, capturing the bride and groom in unpleasant light. Many times, photographers just do not have the luxury of moving our clients, whatever reason that maybe. So we just have to make the best out of that situation, to make our clients look absolutely beautiful regardless what time of the day it is.
Here are some of my favorites that I shot today, using “window light” as well as outdoor sunlight. All images were shot using only available light. No flash.
