WPPI Plus is two days worth of hand on workshop with some of the the best photographers in the world. Only 25 “students” can participate in this awesome experience. JB and DeEtte Sallee of Sallee Photography are from Dallas, Texas. They are known for what they call “Off the Wall, On the Wall” images. They are also known for their creative and edgy images. I am so fortunate to participate in this class, because it is an opportunity for me to learn how they run their business, inside and outside. We went over in detail their business and marketing techniques. At the 2nd half of the first day of the shoot, the “bride and groom”, with a Vintage 1920′s flair. Boyfriend and Girlfriend, Matt and Amber were our models. We shot them at various locations within the MGM Grand Casino and Resort, and then moving on to the famous Boneyard at The Neon Museum. It was SO COLD, I could barely take photos because my fingers were already numb. It was worth it though for me and 24 other photographers. I had so much fun learning from JB and DeEtte who shared just about everything that they have learned from the business and they were so willing to share them with us. They held nothing back as we asked questions after questions, ranging from pricing your services, educating the clients, how to create “panos”, that are now considered “ART”. JB and wife DeEtte are expecting their first. I have mentioned this in the past, but I am so lucky to be part of an industry where your peers are willing to share just about anything about their “expertise”. JB and DeEtte are so warm and so approachable, and they are some of the coolest photographers I have ever met.
Here are some photos I captured during the later half of the first day of our class. We use various off camera lighting techniques to add drama to most of the images below.

I just love the looks of a desaturated image. I apply some of my favorite effects to a carefully selected images. I wanted to make sure that they convey a story and emotion. I think it breathes a life of its own:

We shot the images below inside a sushi bar inside the MGM Grand using two Lowell ID video lights. One light on each side, “painting” the model’s faces:

I usually like my images slightly warm because I love the glow of golden skin tones. I made the image right below a little “cool”, by introducing a blue cast onto the image.

This is ONE of my favorite shots:

Wow those are super awesome!! i think the last one is my fave.
I am just marveling over all the amazing colors you have in these photos. Simply beautiful!
We were very fortunate that JB and DeEtte have within their disposal: 2 Quantum flashes with the Freewire wireless system, and three Lowell ID video lights. I was definitely SOLD on the video lights. We then watched them shoot a boudoir at 2nd floor of Conference room at WPPI on Friday. No photos/video was allowed though. It was fun and we learned so much!
Very nice Joel! Are the picts with signs mostly off camera lighting? Colors just pop! So did you pick up some of those video lights? Still trying to decide which I want LOL.
What a great session. The Sallee’s are just awesome. I had a chance to take one of their smaller sessions last year and am signed up for another on their tour this year.
