Los Angeles Wedding Photography: Shannon & Sergio

Ceremony and Reception: The Sportsmen’s Lodge in Studio City, CA.

I use primarily a prime(fixed) lens system that will give me the sharpest image possible. As oppose to a zoom lens, where you can adjust the focal length.  A prime lens allows me to shoot my subjects tack sharp, at the same time, it blurs out the background too. This allows the viewer to draw their eyes primarily on the subject. The first two “headshots” of Shannon below were shot with a Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 using the widest aperture available @ f/1.8

I shot this with the Canon EF 50mm f/1.2L. Considered the Holy Grail of wedding lenses!  I used the widest aperture available at f/1.2; focused on her left eye, while the rest of her facial area is blurred out. Shooting this wide takes practice, skill, and a little bit of luck. The depth of field is so THIN, that if you even as much as breath, your image will be out of focus.

The third prime lens that I use, is my absolute favorite of them all! The Canon EF 35 f/1.4L. I consider this to be my money lens because everytime I use it, I make lots of MONEY!! Very CORNY jokes aside, I love this lens because all you have to do is look at some of Shannon’s images below. Wow!!

Sergio seeing his Bride for the very first time

Oooh! Look at that Rock on that finger!

Hopefully Sergio knows “where to go”.

Shannon and Sergio offered to buy me a drink! Since I am working, all I asked for was soda! Thank you Shannon and Sergio!

Congratulations Shannon and Sergio Mosqueda! Have a great time on your honeymoon!
