For quite sometime, I have been hearing about a replacement for the Canon EOS 30D, my previous dSLR before I sold it to get my current platform, the Canon EOS 5D full-frame dSLR. The forums have been buzzing about the 40D for a long time. Sure enough, last week, Canon announced the 40D, which uses the new DIGIC III image processor. This is the same processor being used at Canon’s flagship model, Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III. It boasts over 10.1megapixel, among other things, it offers a self-cleaning sensor (yay!) and live preview (which I dont really care for). It now has a 3 inch LCD and a faster frames per shooting at over 6.5 fps. It still uses a APS-C size sensor, therefore the focal length of a lens is multiplied by a factor of (1.6x). This is especially helpful on the tele-end. My primary camera will probably use a wide-angle or standard zoom, then the 40D will use my EF 70-200 f/2.8L. So with the blessings of my wife, I pre-ordered the 40D from amazon.com. Amazon will ship the 40D on Sept 20th, and to arrive at my house the next day (UPS Next Day Air!!). So I cannot wait for it to arrive. As you know, in wedding photography, AT LEAST TWO bodies are necessary. Or else, if your ONLY camera fails, you will have to face the wrath of some very angry brides. =)
